Let Your Heart Lead You Home!
Home is where my pet is ...
...Home is where my person is.
Virginia Brown, Broker Associate
Hello! I am Virginia Brown.
I actually grew up in Grand Junction, living in the same house for a majority of my childhood. I attended Tope, West, GJ & Central High. I returned to Grand Junction for several years in the early 1990's before moving my children and I to Eckert (Delta County). I returned to Grand Junction in 2006 to stay. I still find it odd to be in a public place and hear someone yelling "Cunningham!" (my maiden name).
Back in about 2004, my then real estate agent suggested that I should become a real estate agent. At the time, I had a well paying job with the City of Grand Junction as a GIS Technician (that means basically blending databases with the information you see on maps for everything from subdivision and street names, to data associated with water and sewer lines). In addition to being a GIS Technician, I have been an engineering technician at a coal mine, an professional engineers office, a survey company and a draftsperson for an architect. As a result, I have a diverse background in building components and survey plats.
After many years of debating whether I should or should not, I decided to go for it! I have spent the last several months taking the required courses to become an Associate Broker to sell real estate! I am now working as Realtor under Lisa Bikki, Broker/Owner of Hometown Realty. I was fortunate enough to meet Lisa Bikki many years ago. Over the years, she has helped to sell not only my house, but to also help us sell and buy the mother-in-laws houses.
I attended Colorado Christian University where I earned my Bachelors of Science in Organization Management and Human Resources, a certificate in Project Management and a certificate in Biblical Studies. I actually used my degree for a few years while I worked for Girl Scouts of Colorado. At this point, I cheer on Girl Scouts, spread the word about the GS Gold Award and focus on "Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research" by serving on the board of the local chapter of AAUW (American Association of University Women).
I am happily married to my husband, Larry Brown. We have 4 adult children (Tim, Hannah, Justin & Kelly) and 11 grandchildren. Disclaimer: All of our grandchildren are the husbands fault - his children have blessed us; while my two sit back with relief that they don't have to hurry up and give Mom some grandchildren! We also have 2 dogs, Carmel - my 14 year old shih tzu and Shelby - our rascally Chesapeake Bay Retriever that is afraid of loud noises. Therefore; she does not go duck hunting with daddy... We spend as much time as possible with our children and grandchildren, camping, atv-ing, boating and traveling.
I would say that the hardest thing I have done in my life is sit by my fathers side after his massive stroke, honoring his living will, and allowing him to pass with dignity. As difficult as that was, I strongly encourage everyone to have a living will in place and also a will or estate plan. It is important to know that it is okay for your personal choices to change as your life changes. Be honest with your family about your wants AND fill out the proper forms so your wishes are respected.
